2009
Platform
of Mayor Mark Brown
1. I am working to keep property taxes as low as possible realizing that
Guilford County continues to raise its property tax every year.
2. The Summerfield Community
Park has been completed under budget and on time. As a Council member
and as Mayor I
worked hard to get the funding in place for the park and physically worked
along with many volunteers to save the town money
by doing portions of the work ourselves. I invite all Summerfield residents
to come out and see the beautiful park that two years
ago was waist high kudzu.
3.
The Council realized several years ago a dire need for active
recreation fields due to the hundreds of new residents that have
moved in and the fact that we are using the same
baseball fields that I
used back in 1962. A 28 acre tract of land was bought
in 2007 and on August 20 a groundbreaking was held for the new
athletic park located on US 220 beside the GasTown station.
I have supported and worked to get funding in place for the athletic
fields. It is hoped that by spring 2010 the fields will be ready
to play on.
4. For the next two years a big priority will be to help the
Comprehensive Plan Committee
as they chart the course for land use
planning in Summerfield for the next twenty years. 5. Listen to and treat all parties that come before the Summerfield Town
Council with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Conduct the business
of the citizens of the Town fairly and honestly and render fair judgments in
all cases.

Mark is seen here working on an abandon well located on Town of
Summerfield property. His labor on this well saved the Town
hundreds of dollars. |
Working both on the
Town Council and tirelessly
giving of his time behind the scene as in the
work he and many other towns folk gave to
the reconstruction of the Brittian building exemplifies Mayor Brown's devotion to Summerfield.
 |
Lead by the positive example of Mayor
Mark Brown, the citizens of Summerfield are donating thousands of cost
saving hours to benefit the Town.
Each
year the Town honors the volunteers who tirelessly give of their time to
work on committees and large projects like the Community Park. Without
the volunteers the Town would have to spend a great deal of money to
provide the quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of Summerfield. |
